Death of inquiry

a crutch in these hard times
a sense of belonging
the answer to questions

but to me

a deaf ear to problems
a base for prejudice
the death of inquiry

though I would be
the last to oppose
reverie
and I have been known
to ward off the throes
with my escapist ways

that doesn't mean
it should intervene
with actual progress towards
the coming of brighter days

I take comfort in the fact
I still take comfort in facts
not some sweet fantasy
but observable reality
